Sky Ridge Medical Center - Living and Working in Colorado

Living and Working in Colorado

By working and living in Colorado, you can enjoy more than 300 days of sunshine per year and less than 15" of precipitation annually. The average high temperature in the winter is nearly 50° F — in the summer, only 85° F. Such great weather means you can spend time skiing, hiking, biking, or camping. If you tire of life outdoors, you can attend live theater and concerts, visit art and history museums, or go to an aquarium or the zoo. Or enjoy sporting pastimes with Colorado’s four major league franchises. Cheer on the Rockies during baseball games, the Avalanche during hockey, the Broncos in football games, the Rapids during soccer games, and the Nuggets in basketball.

We invite new or recent graduate registered nurses to apply for a unique opportunity to receive didactic and clinical training for either ICU, Progressive Care, Medical/Telemetry, or Medical/Surgical. This paid, 10-12 week residency will allow new graduates to obtain specific experience through our intensive training and then transition to staff nurse roles within the departments of HCA/HealthONE Hospitals.

Can I volunteer at Sky Ridge Medical Center?

Volunteering at Sky Ridge Medical Center

A cheery smile, a kind word and a caring touch is what our incredible Sky Ridge volunteers offer our patients and their families on a daily basis. Their warmth and commitment helps set Sky Ridge apart from other hospitals. Our volunteers are from varied backgrounds and experience, but they have one thing in common—a desire to do something meaningful. They give their time and talent to make a difference with our patients, families, physicians and staff.

Benefits of Volunteering

According to many of our volunteers, the greatest benefit of volunteering is the genuine sense of satisfaction they receive from helping others. Sky Ridge volunteers also appreciate the opportunity to learn new skills and make friends. Whether our volunteers are assisting patients and their families or working with the staff, they enjoy being a part of the Sky Ridge family.

No One Dies Alone is a volunteer program that provides the reassuring presence of a companion to dying patients who would otherwise be alone. With the support of the nursing staff, companions are able to help provide patients with a priceless human gift: a dignified death.

Sky Ridge Medical Center volunteer program empowers teens: Students get hands-on experience, possible career insights for medical fields

Many teenagers spend their Friday nights hanging out with friends, watching videos, playing games or strolling the mall. Not Sky Ridge Medical Center student volunteers Sydney Brennan, Eileen Kennedy and Aubrey Stevens. The three spend their Friday nights at the Lone Tree hospital, helping answer visitors' questions, directing visitors to patient rooms, answering phones and putting charts together to help the night nurses... Volunteer Spotlight

Left to right: Malcom Johnson, Director of Public Relations and Community Involvement at Public Service Credit Union, Melissa Wedeman and Jackie Millet, Mayor of Lone Tree, Colorado.

Meet Melissa Wedeman

We want to congratulate Melissa Wedeman, one of our remarkable student volunteers, who was awarded the Outstanding Youth of Lone Tree Award! Melissa is a Highlands Ranch High School student who is approaching four years of volunteer service with Sky Ridge. Her ambition is to be an OB/GYN, and she is currently volunteering with our L&D Department. If you see Melissa volunteering, please her congratulate on this prestigious honor.

Meet Caitlyn Mendik

I am a sophomore at Douglas County High School and am pursuing the International Baccalaureate Programme. I volunteer at Skyridge Medical Center once a week and am currently in the Spine and Joint Waiting Room. It is a great way for me to become immersed in the medical field and learn about it from a hands-on approach. I have wanted to be a surgeon since I was a little girl, but working here has solidified my interests, especially in cardiac care. I was given the opportunity to observe two diagnostic cases in the catheterization laboratory: a coronary angioplasty, as well as a left and right heart catheterization. This has shone a light onto what the life of a doctor looks like and has further fueled my desire to pursue a career such as a cardiovascular surgeon. Cardiology and surgery pique my interest because it is a job in which I could constantly learn from and also improve patients’ lives. Volunteering at Sky Ridge Medical Center opens the door for opportunity and I really enjoy working alongside the cheerful staff.

Job Scam Alert

We’ve heard that an individual or individuals impersonating an HCA hiring manager may be conducting online “interviews” and attempting to convince people to send money, supposedly to purchase equipment or set up payroll direct deposit as part of the hiring process..
