Position Summary: The Technician Specialist must be an independent, self-motivated team player and a resource to those he or she works with in order to advance the mission, values and goals of the department and the organization. The Technician Specialist will demonstrate leadership qualities and take the initiative to exceed expectations, hold others accountable and be a role model to meet the needs of the patients.
In addition to performing daily duties, this individual will implement and maintain processes and functions according to best demonstrated practices where warranted. The Technician Specialist will work to better the department and be willing to take on extra projects as necessary.
Certified Pharmacy Technician upon hire
High school diploma or equivalent with emphasis on science, math, typing. Satisfactory completion of a formal technician training course preferred. CE required for continued certification.
Three to five years experience as a pharmacy technician preferred. Demonstrated ability to develop and carry projects to completion.
D. Special Qualifications:
Typing and use of computer keyboard; reading of some technical medical information, physician orders, patient MARs, checklists, and directions; math skills: basic math, algebra, measurements of amounts; preparation of simple reports, completion of forms and logs; communication via phone, computer and face to face with staff, patients and other hospital employees; excellent interpersonal skills with patients and other health care professionals. Ability to work with automated systems. Granted Pyxis/Meditech/Narc access and privileges.
Degree of Supervision Required:
All activities supervised by a pharmacist and Tech Operations Manager. Works independently, concise instruction given when needed, duties outlined on hiring, completed patient specific pharmaceutical work checked by a pharmacist as required by State and Federal Law. Involves general guidance and direction by the Pharmacy Director and the Pharmacy Operations Manager. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures.
Ages of Patients Served:
This position requires knowledge of growth and developmental needs of patients and families. Personnel in this position must recognize and respond to the behaviors of patients and families in each age category. The employee must be able to demonstrate the special skills required to care for patients and their families according to standards. (The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.)
